Three Unforgettable Nights at The Vino

For three electric nights in the heart of Brooklyn, Heart/Lungfinally met its audience — and the audience met it right back. What began as a ten-minute play in a college classroom in 2011 arrived at The Vino Theater fifteen years later as a fully realized, genre-blending memory play, and the room could feel the weight of that journey.

A cast of six fearless, female-identifying performers carried Patricia D. Smith’s story across the decades, backed by a Greek chorus of pulmonology patients whose spoken word and song filled the intimate black box until there was nowhere to hide from the feeling. Audiences laughed, held their breath, and wept — sometimes in the same beat.

Featured on Broadway World and championed across the Brooklyn theater press, the premiere was a love letter to everyone who ever had to choose between who they were and who the world would let them be.
